Barbara Hasz Obituary

After a brave struggle with cancer, Barbara Hammer Hasz, age 64, died peacefully in her home in Mount Vernon, Washington, on September 12, 2004, surrounded by the love of family and friends. Barbara was born in Eureka, California, on March 17, 1940, daughter of Marion and Dena Hammer.

After graduation from Humboldt State College, she married her high school sweetheart, Jim Hasz. For several years she taught elementary school art. In later years she enjoyed working as a medical bookkeeper. Barbara loved art, gardens, books and good movies. Her passions in life, however, were her family and friends, for whom her care, wisdom and generosity were huge and unending.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Jim Hasz; son, Barton Hasz and daughter-in-law, Julie Hasz; daughter, Anne Salley and son-in-law, Jim Salley; daughter, Katherine Hasz, sister, Helen Chesbrough and brother-in-law, Ray Chesbrough; grandchildren, Barton Jr. and Ellie Hasz, Helen and James Salley, and Serrena, Rhianna and Maili Thomas; one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Barbara’s life will be celebrated at Bethany Covenant Church in Mount Vernon, Washington, on Friday, November 5, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Dear Jim,

My heart goes out to you in the death of Barbara. I know it was a sad time for you. I lost my husband in April after four years of illness so I can understand your loss and sorrow. For me, remembering all the happy times helps.

Growing up with Barbara in the same neighborhood brings back memories of having fun. She was such a nice happy friend with whom I shared much.

My prayers are with you and your family. Always, Verjean
