Margaret Harmon Obituary

MONTPELIER - Margaret Harmon, 79, left her body on Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, during a full harvest moon. Margaret led a persistently evolving life; with the death of her mother at age 7, life began to show her that this trip isn't easy, but is worth seeking out personal purpose, while lifting up others along the way.
Margaret's adventure included a stint in her youth on the New York City downtown jazz scene, where she socialized in smoky lounges with Thelonius Monk playing in the background. Her life as a musician was set at an early age. In her 20s, Margaret graduated to the role of wife in Nashville, Tennessee, and became loving mother to two children.
She soon found the call to embark on furthering her academic career and through that, found a home in central Vermont, where her heart still hangs, and her ashes will be spread. Throughout New England, Margaret endeavored her graduate degrees, culminating in a Ph.D. in gerontology at the age of 68!
She is loved and survived by her dear community, her two children, Jason and Libba Harmon, Jason's wife, Candace Belanoff, her three blessed grandchildren, Eli Harmon and Henry and Frances Carlson, and a host of countless dear friends that we all call family.
A celebration of her life will be held in Vermont, location and date to be determined.
