Nira Gherardi Obituary

BARRE TOWN - Nira Anderson Gherardi,74, a longtime resident of Tamarack Lane died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

Born Feb. 15, 1935, in Barre City, she was the daughter of George and Lena (Colombo) Anderson.

She attended Barre schools, graduating from Spaulding High School in 1953. In 1955, she graduated from Becker College in Worcester, Mass. as a medical secretary. She used this training throughout her life, working for several area physicians.

On Aug. 3, 1957, she married Albert Gherardi Jr. They later divorced.

She volunteered at the Central Vermont Medical Center registration desk and the Aldrich Public Library and was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren.

Her memberships include the Barre Congregational Church and the Philomathian Club.

Survivors include her son, Mark Gherardi and his wife, Martha and daughter Paula Plante and her husband, Ron, all of Barre Town. Grandchildren are Paige and Max Gherardi and Keith and Daniel Plante. Also surviving is her brother George Anderson and his wife, Judy and his children David and Ron Anderson and Joanne Garibaldi.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Barre Congregational Church.

Burial will follow in the Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street on Friday from 6 – 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aldrich Public Library 6 Washington Street, Barre VT 05641.
