Patsy Lewis Obituary

WILLIAMSTOWN - Patsy W. Lewis, 84, a longtime resident of Hebert Road, died Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at the Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre, where she had been a patient for about a year. Her family was at her bedside.

Born on Oct. 1, 1925, in Buchanan, Va., she was the daughter of William R. and Julia (Reid) West and was a graduate of Buchanan High School in 1943.

In earlier years, she had worked as a telephone operator in Washington, D.C., and later in Panama City, Fla.

On July 9, 1954, she married Frederic L. Lewis in Panama City, who was stationed there with the United States Air Force. They made their home on numerous Air Force bases until her husband's retirement in 1973. They have since resided at their present home in Williamstown.

Ceramics, gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking, traveling, collecting coins and stamps and widespread volunteer service, especially at the Central Vermont Hospital in Berlin, were her special interests.

Her memberships included the Barre Congregational Church, Unit 10 of the American Legion Auxiliary of Barre, and the Charity Chapter 57 OES of Williamstown, where she held numerous offices and was a Past Matron.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Michael Lewis and his wife, Pam, and Jamie Lewis, all of Williamstown, and Thomas Lewis and his wife, Tammy of Lexington, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond, James, Ralph and William West; and sisters, Virginia and Julia West, Juanita Bratton, Louise Graybeal and Frances Trent.

Her life will be remembered and celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at 7 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.

The committal service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at 10 a.m. in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641 or to the American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495-1460.

I was so sorry to hear of Aunt Patsy's passing. I always enjoyed my time at your house and having you at my house for family gatherings throughout the years. Aunt Patsy was a special lady and I'm so thankful I had the pleasure of knowing her. I know you will miss her terribly, but hope the happy memories you have of her will live on.
