PLAINFIELD - Daniel R. Roberts Sr. of Bunker Hill Circle passed away at his home on March 25, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. His family was at his bedside.
He was born on Oct. 15, 1946, in Barre City to Raymond and Rachel (Durgan) Roberts. He attended the Marshfield-Plainfield school system through the eighth grade before attending the St. Johnsbury Trade School.
Daniel made his home with his wife Kay of 35 years. He leaves five children: their daughter Jennifer Roberts of Middletown, Conn.; his son Daniel Roberts Jr. and his wife, Carrie, of Barre; and daughters Karen Lafreniere of Montpelier, Johanna Ackerson of North Hyde Park and Brandi Roberts of Plainfield; as well as 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind nine siblings, Sandra Loso of Montpelier, Sharon Estiville and Timothy, Douglas and Charles Roberts, all of Plainfield, Gloria LaMorey of Graniteville, and Carol LeClair, Maryellen Harris and Jeffery Roberts, all of Barre.
Dan worked for several companies throughout the Central Vermont area, including Couillard Heating Oils, owner and operator of Dan's Rubbish for many years, Vermont Expert Tree Service, and Asplundh Tree Service, and owned and operated Roberts' Tree Service over the past five years.
Dan enjoyed hunting and deer camp on Stannard Mountain, NASCAR racing every Sunday, motorcycle rides, bowling and cutting trees throughout Central Vermont.
He was a member of the Barre Canadian Club and the North American Hunting Club.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Crossroads Christian Church in East Montpelier.
Later internment will be made in the Plainmont Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

I met Dan the first time this past summer when he cut some trees at my camp. We had the opportunity to share about our health issues. I met a wonderful man and will miss not being able to talk to him when I return to camp next month. Our condolences to the Roberts family.
