Janet Flink

BARRE - Janet Flink, age 81, of Barre, died after a long illness Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at the Pines Rehabilitation & Health Center where she had been a resident for the past year.

Born Dec. 5, 1932, in South Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Thompson) Gustafson. She grew up in South Portland, Maine, and received her education in South Portland schools, graduating from South Portland High School. She attended Gray Business School, Colby College.

She married Stanley Flink in the Meeting House Hill Congregational Church, South Portland, Maine, on June 21, 1952. They resided in Roxbury, Massachusetts, South Portland, Maine, and Moretown, Vermont, before moving to Barre in 1958.

Janet played violin for the Portland (Maine) Youth Orchestra, Portland Symphony, where she met her husband of 62 years, and was a charter member of the Vermont Philharmonic. She also enjoyed teaching violin and provided instruction out of her home for many years.

She was employed by the Central Vermont Teachers Credit Union for more than 30 years, retiring as the assistant treasurer in 1994.

She was a faithful member and past assistant treasurer of the First Congregational Church of Berlin, past president of the Barre Women's Club and Rainbow Girls adviser.

She was especially fond of spending summers at the family camp on Peacham Pond, where she enjoyed watching the loons, kayaking, floating in the pond, and her family and friends.

Janet is survived by her husband, Stanley Flink, Barre, Vermont; two daughters, Laura Gustafson, Walpole, New Hampshire, Gretchen Satink and her husband, Fred, East Montpelier; her son, Richard Flink, and his wife, Christine, Chesapeake, Virginia; a sister, Carole Knight, Bay City, Michigan; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Greta Graham; and grandson Stephen Blair.

A service of remembrance for family and friends will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Berlin, 1808 Scott Hill Road, Berlin, Vermont. There will be no calling hours.
