Constance Codling Obituary

BARRE TOWN - Constance Marie "Connie" Codling, 67, of Upper Prospect Street, died Monday, May 11, 2015, at her home. Her family was at her bedside.

Born on January 26, 1948, in Barre, she was the daughter of Leonard "Shag" and Nadine (Bell) Pombar. She attended schools in Northfield. Thirty-five years later, she was proud to receive her high school diploma.

On August 23, 1969, Connie married Robert Codling in Northfield. They first made their home in Marshfield before moving to Barre Town in 1972. In earlier years, she operated her own day care and later worked as a bartender for many local area businesses. Since 2011, she had been employed by Shaw's Supermarket in Berlin.

Connie was a member of the American Legion Post 59 Auxiliary of Waterbury and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 679 of Springfield. Her interests included bingo, bowling, crocheting, going for long rides and watching old western movies and soap operas. She especially enjoyed time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Codling; her children, Todd W. Reichenberger and his partner, Donna Gagnon, and Tanya Bryan and her husband, Greg, all of Barre, and Traci Toffling and her husband, Tom, of Williamstown; her five grandchildren, Cody, Paige, Holli, Danielle and Dylan; a brother, Thomas Pombar and his wife, Carol, of Vero Beach, Florida; an aunt, Pauline Hatch, of Northfield; many nieces, nephews and cousins, along with several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert "Bucky" Pombar, and two half-sisters, June Lique and Phyllis Davis.

Her funeral service and celebration of Connie's life will be held in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre, on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 1 p.m. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the Berlin Corner Cemetery. Following the cemetery committal service, family and friends will gather at the Montpelier Elks for a time of sharing memories and refreshments.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Vermont American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495; or to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641. For a memorial guestbook, visit www.hookerwhitcomb.com.

Connie's family gives a special thank-you to CVHHH nurses Mary Crossman and Donna Fontana, and to Becky Adams, who provided home care for her for the past nine months.

To the Entire Codling Family - My sympathy and prayers to you during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with Connie at Rich's and I can't even remember how many times I had to convince her friends that I was not Connie. Guess it was the short stature and white hair that caused all the confusion. Connie, I will miss running in to you at Soups and Greens when I visit Vermont.
