Dorothy Claire Burger

BURGER, Dorothy Claire, age 99, died on November 7, 2010, to join her husband of 72 years, Harry C. Burger. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Lewis J. and Margaret Gibbons; a brother, Lewis Gibbons Jr.; and a sister, Marguerite Gibbons. She is survived by her son, Paul M. Burger and his wife, Carroll, of Prairie Village, Kan.; her daughter, Diane E. Jones and her husband, William, of Mechanicsville, Va.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, Grammie, Oma and friend. She had many interests through the years: reading, bridge, travel and over 500 hours as a "Pink Lady" hospital volunteer. During her early married life, she was a model for several department stores. In later years, she was a volunteer docent at the Valentine Museum. She was active in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the auxiliary of The Little Sisters of the Poor. She and Harry enjoyed their later retirement years as owners of Harthea Miniatures, a specialty store near Ashland. Now they are together again forever. There will be a gathering of family and friends 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Recording of the Blind and Dyslexic, Regional Unit of the Southeast, 3500 Remson Court, Charlottesville, Va. 22901.
