David Herndon Jr.

HERNDON, David Henry Jr., was born in Manassas, Va., on January 7, 1931. Sadly, after battling Alzheimer's for many years, he departed this earth and went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 18, 2010. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 59 years, Bettie Ann Herndon of Alexandria, Va.; daughters, Mary Conner, Wanda Lewis Goodridge and Lisa Ann Melton of Richmond, Va.; son, David Griffith Herndon of Cincinnati, Ohio; sons-in-law, Robert Conner, George Goodridge and Gregory Melton; daughter-in-law, Renee Forcier Herndon; and beautiful grandchildren, Julie Conner, Alexandra Conner, Matthew Herndon, Bradley Herndon, Elizabeth Herndon, Madison Melton and Christine Goodridge. David attended VPI, worked for the Metro Transit Authority and as a general contractor in Alexandria, Va. His gentle spirit, sense of humor and loving demeanor will always be remembered by his family and friends. David exuded a special warmth and an open heart to everyone he met. A celebration of his life will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 23, with the family receiving friends 30 minutes prior, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond, Va. A reception will follow the service.
