Nellie Arthur Obituary

Published by Morrissett Funeral and Cremation Service on Dec. 5, 2010.
ARTHUR, Nellie Clark, 93, of Chesterfield, reunited with her dearly missed husband on Tuesday, November 30, 2010. She was the devoted wife of over 62 years to Nelson B. Arthur. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Roberson of Hemet, Calif.; two sons, Nelson B. Arthur Jr. and wife, Rose, of Chesterfield, Va., and Kent M. Arthur and wife, Leza, of Corona, Calif.; and her five grandchildren, David, Michael, Ryan, Nathan and Lindsay. The enduring legacy of Nellie Arthur is in the lives of those that remain in her wake. Nellie was the eldest of five children born to the late Samuel Clark and Vernell Vest Clark at their now historic family farmhouse at Physic Hill. A native of Chesterfield, she graduated from Grange Hall High School, Class of 1937. Nellie worked at the Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company, Richmond Newspapers and Thalhimers department store, in addition to being a full-time homemaker. She remained a Virginia resident until 1978, moving to Daytona Beach, Fla., to enjoy her golden years with Nelson. She enjoyed traveling across the country with her husband, Nelson, for 62 years until his passing in 2002, when Nellie returned to Virginia to be closer to family. Nellie's passion in life was for her family and making cross-country trips, including her last trip to California to attend her eldest grandson's wedding and a surprise 90th birthday celebration with friends and family. Her passing is her final trip from this long and blessed life to the next. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park. Our family is most grateful to all those that have given comfort and friendship through this transition.
