Allison Palmer Obituary

Allison P. Palmer Jr., 88, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, December 3, 2005. Allison was born in Pennsylvania on July 18, 1917, a son of the late Allison P. Sr. and Hannah Palmer. He was a former 50-year member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and currently a member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Coast Guard and after WWII, he was employed with Johnson & Johnson. In 1948, he was promoted and moved to Pittsburgh, Pa., and from there to Huntington, W.Va. He then transferred in 1953 and was employed with Mead Johnson, a division of Bristol Myers Squibb for 31 years until his retirement. Allison was a member of the ROMEOS, Big Lick Kiwanis Club, Cave Spring Masonic Lodge #230, and American Legion Post #3. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years and his childhood sweetheart, Florence P. Palmer. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, A. Duane and Mary Palmer of Roanoke; his daughters, Joanne R. (Joey) Boitnott of Richmond, Karen Lee Palmer of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; his sister, Connie Lee Bell and husband, Jack of Morehead City, N.C.; and a very special, devoted friend, Lois Dunham of Roanoke. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's South Chapel Monday, December 5, 2005, 4 p.m. with the Rev. Bruce Tuttle and the Rev. Arthur Wingfield officiating. A private interment will be on Tuesday in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends Monday, one hour prior to the funeral service at Oakey's South Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cave Spring United Methodist Church, 4505 Hazel Drive, Roanoke, Va. 24018.
