Anne FLICK Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 3, 2009.
FLICK, Anne Beasley, 81, of Bon Air, died November 1, 2009, at home after a lengthy illness. Born February 29, 1928 in Richmond, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Carrie Garthright Beasley. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Richmond Polytechnic Institute. As a member of the alumni board, she signed the charter when the college changed its name to Virginia Commonwealth University. While raising four children, she remained active in the community as a member of the Westwood Junior Women's Club, the VCU alumni board, a voting poll worker, and one of the founders of the Brighton Green Garden Club. She also served as chairman of the Brighton Green Community Association. She frequently lectured on flower arranging for other garden clubs. An avid gardener and cook, Anne was known for her creativity with landscaping and recipes. She was a history buff with special interest in the American Colonial era. A loyal, fun-loving woman with a wicked sense of humor, she had a wide network of lifelong friends and was always ready to make new ones. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, A. W. "Al" Flick; daughter, Nancy Flick and husband, John Ferrara, daughter, Heidi Flick and husband, Will MacDonald; son, Todd Flick; nephews, Robert Beasley and Clifford Beasley; and number of other cousins, nephews and nieces. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Shirley Jezierski, Betty Hargrove and Peggy Shawhan for their devoted friendship during Anne's long illness, and to caretaker Lisa Helton for her compassion and understanding. A private service for Anne will be held at a later date. The family asks that friends and family please consider a donation in Anne's name to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, 1800 Lakeside Ave., Richmond, Va. 23228
