MILLER, Ava Lee Wilson, 84, of Ashland, died on December 5, 2009. She was born and raised in Lone Fountain, Virginia. She graduated from Bridgewater College in 1945. She was a lifelong educator and taught young children in Spotsylvania and Hanover Counties until she retired as a first grade teacher in 1987. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Ray Bowman Miller; and her daughter, Jennifer Lee Miller Owens. She is survived by her sister, Fay Wilson Lockhart of Twain Harte, California; her children, Jeffrey and Sandy Miller, Gregory and Deborah Miller, Timothy Miller, and Esther and Tim McDermott; and son-in-law, Lee Owens. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Gwendolyn and Jason Miller, Matthew, Meredith, Jared, and Jenny Miller, Andrew and Christopher Owens, Joseph Miller, and Patrick, Michael, and Meghan McDermott; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Ashland, Virginia, on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 2 p.m., and the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Interment will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery, N. Main Street, Bridgewater, Va. at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to either Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 Henry Street, Ashland, Va. 23005, or the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.
