BESSIE CARTWRIGHT

CARTWRIGHT, Bessie "Betsy," of Richmond, Va., died June 19, 2010 after a brief stay in the hospital near her home at Covenant Woods. She was born in Belton, Texas, February 8, 1914. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred H. Strick and Viola Godley Strick; her husband, Paul J. Cartwright; and sister, Alfreda Strick. Betsy is survived by her stepdaughter, Phyllis; sister, Jeanne Hutchinson; nephews, Ben Moomaw and David Lynch; niece, Jean Clair and her husband, Albert Godley-Davis; and several cousins. Betsy was an active member of her church, Immanuel Episcopal, local and professional organizations of Virginia educators, and a former member of P.F.O. Society and Alpha Delta Kappa while working as a classroom teacher and learning center developer as part of the Richmond Public School System. A memorial service was held on June 22, 2010 at Chamberlayne Heights United Methodist Church. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Covenant Woods, 7090 Covenant Woods Dr., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111, for the benefit of its Health and Wellness Center.
