Mrs Ergenbright, I am deeply saddened to read of Coach's passing. I, too, was a Captain on the last team he coached at LBHS. I always will remember his sense of humor and his fix-all athletic tape. I remember the basketball rim breaking against Byrd. We didn't have a replacement rim and Coach climbed the ladder and taped the rim with athletic tape. I will always be thankful for all he did in helping me be a better football player and recieving my scholarship to Va. Tech. You and your family have my deepest sympathy. Sincerely, Mike Poole

I played two years of football and four years of golf under Coach. It was a memorable experience. I vividly remember the Moose episode that Murky Thomas told, and another one as well that had the punch line "green side up!". Coach could really crack us up when needed, but he also could drive us to the edge when we needed that too. He will be missed!

Deanna, we send you and your family our sympathy in your loss of Pete. We remember the good times we shared when our children were young and we often got together as young couples in Covington. God Bless each of you. Randy and Janet Vail

I was a senior captain on the FB team at LBHS the last year he coached. Even though it has been close to 40 years, I haven't forgotten him. He was a gifted coach and smart as a whip. I remember his sense of humor as well. He knew how to bust some chops, too. Once, he told the players with red helmets to move to one side and the players with grey helmets to move to the other side. A guy named Moose went to the wrong side. Coach Ergenbright started screaming, and we all started winching, and then he hollered "Manager, bring Moose a color chart!" All the best to his wife and children.

To Deanna, Lynne, Joey, and Paige (& family),
What a life Pete led! Celebrate how fortunate we all are to have enjoyed his presence while we had him. I remember all the jokes his laugh and giggles the most. I can't say I ever recall a time where he was mad except when he missed a shot on the golf course! He always seemed to be genuinely concerned about my life and my family's lives. Through the rough times and the good, I know he cared and loved his family through it all. I'm glad he was a friend of my Dad's and through that relationship I could follow along with how you and Pete were doing. His picture you posted here is just how I remember him especially that smirk and twinkle in his eye.
Peace,
Devin Householder
