Charles Russell Shorter Jr.

SHORTER, Charles Russell Jr., age 78, of Farmville, Va., passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2009 in Farmville. He was a 1965 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and the owner of the Shorter Funeral Home. He was a charter member of the Prince Edward volunteer Rescue Squad, a member of The Independent Order of the Odd Fellows 290 Farmville, Va., Farmville Lions Club and Madisonville Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Shorter Lee of Farmville, Va., Kathleen Shorter Jacobs of Appomattox, Va., Georgianna Shorter Covington of Pamplin, Va.; stepson, William P. Thompson II of Huntersville, N.C.; two step granddaughters, two nieces, three nephews, four great-nieces, two great-nephews, two great-great-nephews; and his beloved pet, Queen. The family will receive friends Saturday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, 1905 S. Main Street, Farmville, Va., and where funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009 in the chapel. Entombment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Rice, Va.
