Cladyne BARRETT Obituary

BARRETT, Cladyne Cottrell, age 88, of Kents Store, Va., passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009. She was born in Colorado City, Texas and was the daughter of the late Clay Rex Cottrell and Opal Robertson Cottrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Barrett Sr. MSGT USAF (Ret.) of Williamsburg; three brothers, Billy Rex Cottrell CWO-4 USN (Ret.) of Kents Store, Monte B. Cottrell GM 2/C USN (Ret.) of El Cajon, Calif., Donald H. Cottrell of Midland, Texas; three sisters, Ruth M. Cottrell of Iowa Park Texas, Hazel C. Geissler of Kents Store and Marianne C. Epps of Richmond; one granddaughter, Meredith A. McLeod of Winston-Salem N.C.; son-in-law, Harold K. Richardson of Kents Store. Cladyne and her husband J.C., who served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, were stationed at many bases across the United States. During WWII, she worked at Lockheed Aircraft in California and during the Korean War, while J.C. was in Japan, she worked as the bookkeeper at Sears in Charlottesville. While stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, she and J.C. taught Bridge and ran the Duplicate Bridge Club. She loved her family, cooking, gardening, reading and Bridge, in that order. When her health declined, she played computer Bridge with others from all around the world, maintaining the highest level possible. Cladyne is survived by three daughters, Bobette B. Richardson of Kents Store, Monte B. "Betsy" Travis (Ted) of Gum Spring, Kay B. McLeod (Conrad) of Weaverville, N.C.; three sons, Barry D. Barrett Sr. Airman USAF (Ret.) of Goochland Court House, Clay Anthony Barrett (Brenda) of Louisa, Steven H. Barrett (Brenda) of Kents Store; two sisters, Carol C. Childress of Kents Store, Patricia C. Williams (Thomas T.) of Richmond; three brothers, David F. Cottrell MSG E-8 USA (Ret.) (Terry) of Richmond, Jerry L. Cottrell Airman USAF (Ret.) (Linda) of Englewood, Tenn., and Michael V. Cottrell Sr Airman USAF (Ret.) (Celeste) of Kents Store; 14 grandchildren, K. Shawn Haney (Katherine) of Burkeville, Lisa C. Haney of Palmyra, James Barrett McLeod Airman USAF (Ret.) of Winston-Salem N.C., Barry D. Barrett Jr., Jessica M. Barrett and Robert Kent Barrett, all of Richmond, John Lindsey Barrett USMC Okinawa Japan, John Clay Barrett (Deborah) of Palmyra, Lee Ann Reynolds (Chad) of Bumpass, Spencer L. Barrett of Partlow, Elijah J. Barrett and Rebekah E. Barrett of Louisa, Gary Wayne Gibson (Casey) of Trevilians and Brandy Gibson of Zion Crossroads. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Special gratitude for the extended devotion and care by family, friends, Home Health Care, and staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital during this difficult time. Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Va., is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at the Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Va. on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals On Wheels, 105 Crofton Place, Palmyra, Va. 22963.

Cladyne, one whom we all loved so very much, in our hearts is where her soul will never depart. It is alive and well in all our precious thoughts. That is where she will always be alive, through our memories, a love that never dies. I love you aunt Cladyne.
