Clarine J. Pickens

PICKENS, Clarine J., 85, a resident of Lakewood Manor Baptist Community in Richmond, passed away Monday, May 24, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Rev. James G. Pickens Sr. Clarine was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, August 15, 1924. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Johnson. Mrs. Pickens was also preceded in death by her brothers, Carlyle Johnson and Robert Johnson. She is survived by her son, James G. Pickens Jr. and his wife, Nancy, of Dumfries, Virginia; as well as two grandchildren, Mrs. Paige Sims and her husband, Trent, of Honolulu, Hawaii and Mr. James W. Pickens and his wife, Lauren, of Gainesville, Georgia. Mrs. Pickens was educated at East Carolina University and the Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. She served the Lord at her husband's side for 49 years as pastor's wife, mother, teacher and sometimes choir director. Mrs. Pickens was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship and music program of the church. She was a lady of firm beliefs who lived the life of a true Christian. A celebration of her life will be held in Derbyshire Baptist Church's Chapel, 8800 Derbyshire Rd., Richmond, Friday, May 28, 2010, at 11 a.m., with entombment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010 at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Rd.
