In Loving Memory of Peggy Jean Wallace Thomas
Peggy Jean Wallace Thomas, of Charlotte, N.C. and Spartanburg, S.C., passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
Born August 20, 1939, in Belvoir, N.C., Peggy was the daughter of Toby Wallace and Emily Colville Wallace. A lifelong learner, she graduated from Belvoir Falkland High School. She studied Education and Childhood Development at East Carolina University, UNC, and Converse College.
Peggy’s exuberant spirit, sharp wit, and generosity touched countless lives. She was honored in the 1971 edition of Outstanding Young Women in America and devoted her career to teaching at Cary High School and Spartanburg High School, inspiring generations of students.
Beyond education, Peggy contributed to real estate and historic preservation, notably restoring the Haley Building in Greenville, S.C. She was active in Alpha Delta Kappa, Garden Clubs, and the Business and Professional Women’s Clubs.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert R. Thomas. She is survived by her son, Robert Ruark Thomas, his partner Nicholas Jay Nesbit, her brother, Henry Wallace, his wife Linda and their children Kimberly Wallace, Louis Wallace, Lori Meeks, and Christopher Wallace, her sister Joyce Braxton’s daughters Nancy Galloway, Peggy Bryan, Debra Stuckey, Lisa Manning, and their brother Wesley Braxton, as well as her brother Louis “Bud” Wallace’s children Louis Wallace, Teresa Williams, and Susie Fogg, and her bother Ronald Crawford’s sons Tony Crawford and Jim Crawford, and their sisters Linda Crawford and Nora Williams. She is also survived by her nephews Bobby Thomas, David Thomas, and their sister Carolyn Thomas.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens - Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A cryptside service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens - Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Brian Redding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ADK Alpha Beta Scholarship Fund, c/o Deb Miley, 2460 Compton Bridge Road, Inman, S.C. 29349
