David Barrett Obituary

BARRETT, David Paul, 86, a resident of Wakefield, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Born on August 1, 1923 in Southampton County, he was the son of David Salathial and Daisy Britt Barrett. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Pattie Newton Barrett. Paul attended Waverly United Methodist Church. He was a hard working man who was a loving husband and devoted father. He is survived by his son, Douglas B. Barrett of Midlothian; and his grandson, Christopher M. Barrett of Wakefield. He was also predeceased by his son, David Paul Barrett Jr.; his siblings, Lena Barrett Newton, George McCauley Barrett and Eugene S. Barrett. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009, 11 a.m., at the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield, with Rev. Connie Gibbs-Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery and the family will then hold a reception in the Wakefield United Methodist Church fellowship hall. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly suggests memorial donations be made to the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Fleetwood Ave., Wakefield, Va., 23888, or to Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, Va. 23890. Condolences may be posted at www.jtmorriss.com.
