WALKER, Dennis Michael "Hermitage Denny," 68, of Richmond, passed away after a brief illness under excellent care at MCV Hospital on May 24, 2009. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Audrey Mahoney Walker; their three girls, Tammy (Patrick) Gillespie of San Diego, Calif., Dennise Hustead and Shelby Walker of Richmond; Papa to Alyssa, Michael and Brandon Cheseldine and Brian, Morgan and Will Gillespie; and a large number of friends. He retired from Verizon after 31 years of service. A big part of his life was his grandchildren, fishing, golfing and volunteering. The family will receive family and friends at Bliley's-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. The family requests casual attire to be worn in Denny's honor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1503 Michaels Rd., Richmond, Va. 23229 and/or donate blood.

I knew Denny from working for Bell Atlantic and the CWA retirees club.
He always had a good word and a smile. I did not know that he went to Lourdes. My family are charter members.
I am sorry for your loss and will remember the family in my prayers.

Shelby and family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Shelby, you were there for me when my father passed away 3 years ago and it meant so much. Please do not hesitate to let me know if I can do anything. Below is a poem that may ease your pain:

There are sounds of hammering in Heaven right now because Denny and George have already found just the right spot for a gazebo. A visit to the Hermitage CO always provided a chance to ask Denny, "what he had heard". The day was complete if you had news new to Denny. Then with this male bonding procedure complete, Denny would give any help needed to clear a trouble. Also, for Denny's family to thank the MCV staff is a reflection of the kindness of the Walker family and I'm sure would make Denny proud.
