Dominick Esposito Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jul. 6 to Jul. 7, 2010.
ESPOSITO, Dominick John "Nick," 84, of Glen Allen, died Saturday, July 3, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luigi and Elisa Esposito; brothers, George and Salvatore Esposito; and his beloved son, Lewis Esposito. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Nancy Esposito; his daughter, Georgia Esposito; stepdaughters, Lee Ann Orefice, Dee Ann Simon, Nancy H. Brown, Suzanne B. Hubbard; special niece and nephew, Elisa Persinger and Dominick Esposito and six grandchildren. At the age of 16, Nick joined the Navy. Upon the discovery of his true age, he was promptly sent home on a bus from California. At the age of 18, he joined the Army and fought in Okinawa, where he received a Purple Heart. He later reenlisted and served two more years in Japan as part of the Occupation Force. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Upon Nick's return from service, he enrolled in the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law using his G.I. Bill and graduated in 1953. His first job was with the Honorable Judge Robert R. Merhige Jr. who was also his mentor. He loved practicing law and retired at the age of 70. Nick was a true outdoorsman who loved to go fresh and salt water fishing, golfing and duck hunting with his longtime friend, Ivy Bradly. Perhaps one of the proudest moments in Nick's life took place in St. Louis, Mo. in 1982 when his beloved Labrador Retriever, Westwind Supernova Chief, a field champion and amateur field champion, won the title of "National Field Trial Champion" over 90 other participants. The family extends special thanks for their love and care to Dr. Martin Starkman and staff; caregiver, Kevin Hayes and Donna Bourne and the staff at Westport Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Road. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1503 Michaels Road, Richmond, Va.

I personally did not know Mr. Esposito, but know Page - his grand daughter. Through her I know Mr.Esposito was a great man who ensured his children and their children understood and practice the key rules of life: be a good family member, be a proud citizen and remember your freedom is not free, respect and take advantage of the opportunities life will deliver to you, and education is your key to many great things in life. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go to Mr Esposito's extended family. Please know that your husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather was a great man who made a difference in so many, many lives.

Sincerely - Deborah Dunbar and family

I owe much of what I have achieved in my professional career to Nick. He was always willing to give a young lawyer a challenge and encourage me to meet it. He will always hold a special place in my life, and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with Nancy and the family.

We are so terribly saddened to hear of Georgia's father's passing this past weekend. We are abroad and just saw the obit and won't be back in Richmond until after this coming Saturday's memorial service. Mr. Esposito always was so very kind and generous with us over the years we were honored to know him and we truly enjoyed our times picking crabs together in the summers. May God's Grace comfort him and his family during this difficult time. Mary Augusta and Paul Nardo (from England)
