Frances Cruickshanks Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Jun. 23 to Jun. 26, 2010.
CRUICKSHANKS, Frances Elizabeth "The Great Chef," 92, born February 15, 1918 and died May 26, 2010 peacefully of natural causes. She was the daughter of Oscar and Emma Jones of Richmond and the eldest of five siblings. Frances was married to John S. Cruickshanks Jr. for 56 years and had four children, John III, Patricia, Robert and Thomas. Being the first to graduate with a college degree, she was active in the family business, Cruickshanks Iron Works, for over 40 years, as well as raising a large family. She was active in Ginter Park Baptist Church, where she chaired numerous clubs and committees including the Golden Circle Club, Richmond Garden Club and Richmond Women's Club and United Daughter's of the Confederacy. She prided herself with always having a hot meal available to her children and any stranger at all times. She was known as "The Great Chef" by her friends and strangers for her kindness. She will be remembered as a loving, gentle, strong matriarch of her family. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Ginter Park Baptist Church, with a reception immediately following for her friends and family.
