GARDNER, Frank V., of Springfield, Va., husband of the late Geraldine D. Gardner, died on Saturday, June 19, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Gardner. He is survived by six daughters, Karen Sheehan, Diane Gardner Bowers, Maureen McDonnell, Lorraine Gardner, Rosemarie Gardner Thomas, Ellen Gardner; and two sons, Daniel and Thomas Gardner; and a sister, Mary Shannon; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A lifelong Northern Virginian, Frank worked as an FBI agent and a foreign service officer, after serving in the Marines during WWII. He was one of the few remaining Marine survivors of the battles of Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The family will receive friends at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Va. 22032, on Friday, July 9, 2010, for the viewing from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Va. 22152, on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. The family prefers memorial contributions be made to the Ellen Gardner Breathe Fund, P.O. Box 4683, Midlothian, Va. 23112. For guest book and directions, visit www.fmfh.com.
