GEORGE SANFORD Obituary

SANFORD, George M. "Dickie", 69, of Warsaw, passed away on Friday, April 9, 2010 after a long illness. He was born on January 29, 1941 to James Elton and Georgia Annie Sanford. He was retired from the Naval Surface Warfare Center at Dahlgren, Virginia, served as a deacon at Menokin Baptist Church, and was a member of the Old Timers Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Sanford; his daughters, Patti S. Jones and husband, Paul, of Montross, and Mandy S. Gallagher and husband, Dennis, of Warsaw; four grandchildren, Samantha Elizabeth Jones, Caleb Sanford Gallagher, Alexandra Marshall Jones and Sara Caitlin Gallagher. Also surviving is a brother, James Elwood Sanford and wife, Elizabeth of Montross; four sisters, Katherine Bowen, Paige Edwards and her husband, Robert, all of Annapolis, Md., Frances Roberts and husband, Burl Gene, of Montross, and Lois Jones and her husband, Woody, of Fredericksburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Wainwright Sanford and William Henry "Billy" Sanford. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, at Menokin Baptist Church, Warsaw, Va. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel.
