SHARPE, Gilbert Owen Jr., 83, of Henrico County, Va., departed this life on October 25, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was a self-made man, having owned Sharpe Homes, Inc. and presently owning Papa Construction, Inc. He was a longtime member of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church. He will always remain in our hearts as a loving husband, "Daddy" and "Papa." No one was ever a stranger to him. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Sharpe; his mother and stepfather, Agnes and George Uzzo; in-laws, Hoke and Esline Conway; his brothers-in-law, Tom Childress, Harvey Conway and Ed Rogers. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Eleanor Conway Sharpe; his children, Gilbert Sharpe III and wife, Betty, Debby Davis and husband, Glenn, Michael Sharpe and wife, Wanda, and Crystal Eddleton and husband, Steve; his grandchildren, Travis Davis and wife, Kathy, Dennis Sharpe and wife, Melissa, Adam Davis, Chad Sharpe, Steven Eddleton, Jeremy Sharpe and wife, Meg, Amy Reid and Nick Eddleton and wife, Alycia; his nine great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ambra Lee, Nicole, Jake, Ashleigh, Jade, Kalleigh, Makenzie and Landon; sister, Bernice Childress; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jean Conway, Earl and Jean Conway, Mary and Jack Singleton, Priscilla and Floyd Myers, Carolyn and Bob Midkiff and Brenda Rogers; many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to thank the Medi Home Health and Hospice Staff and especially many thanks to the minister of St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Gordon Pruitt. The family will receive friends at the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St., Glen Allen, on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held October 28 at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church at 12 noon. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Matthew's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1706 St. Matthew's Ln., Richmond, Va. 23233.

I still can't help but think that Gilbert is fishing with the Greatest Fisherman of All now. We will definitely miss him, particularly in church.

I became part of this family of course through marriage. And I just want to say that Gilbert is one of the most kindest men and not too mention funniest as well. He will truly be missed.He has left behind great memories for lots of folks.
