Hattie Davis Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Sep. 28 to Sep. 29, 2010.
DAVIS, Hattie (Underdown), 81, of New Kent, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Sunday, September 26, 2010. She is survived by Stuart Davis, her husband and loving caregiver of 11 years; three sons, Gerry Underdown (Celeste), Jeff Underdown (Robin), Tony Underdown; two stepchildren, Karen Davis Westphal (Jeff), Mike Davis (Mary); eight grandchildren, Brett Underdown (Katy), Jamie Underdown Eftekhari (Josh), Kasey Underdown, Rachel Underdown, Chris Westphal, Ryan Westphal, Claire Davis, Gabi Davis; two great-grandchildren, Kendall Underdown and Keelyn Underdown. She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Staton and Margaret Henderson, both of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hattie was retired from Thalhimers Department Store. During her 50-plus years as a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church, she served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, elder, and president of Women of the Church. Despite her years of medical and physical challenges, she stayed active and enjoyed traveling with her husband and some special friends and spending time with her family, especially at the river. We will miss her. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Mechanicsville. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Fairfield Presbyterian Church on Thursday, September 30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairfield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 6930 Cold Harbor Road, Mechanicsville, 23111.
