Helen Gray

GRAY, Helen Hilleary, 86, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Born and raised in Georgetown, D.C., she was a resident of Chesterfield for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Gray. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Larry Thomas; four grandchildren, Laura Howell (Mike), Lance Thomas (Janet), James Thomas and Helen Checkan (Rich); 10 great-grandchildren, Brian Thomas, Michael Howell, Edith Howell, Amber Howell, Simon Howell, Grace Checkan, Carey Beth Thomas, Ava Checkan, Lawson Thomas and Thomas Checkan; niece, Carol Ann Neams; as well as additional treasured family and friends. Helen was retired from service as a Chesterfield County school crossing guard. She was a longtime member of Sherbourne United Methodist Church where she was an active volunteer. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10), with a funeral service immediately following visitation. Interment will take place at 12 noon Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Columbia Gardens Cemetery in Arlington, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sherbourne United Methodist Church or Hospice of Frederick County Maryland.
