TAYLOR, Henry Jr., of Louisa, died Saturday, March 26, 2011. Born in Richmond on March 26, 1928, he was the son of Henry and Isabel Taylor of Richmond. Mr. Taylor graduated from St. Christopher's School in 1946 and the University of Virginia with a Commerce degree in 1950. After serving in the U.S. Army Seventh Infantry Division in the Korean War, he worked in the construction industry in Richmond for nearly four decades, retiring in 1994 as president of Taylor & Parrish Construction Inc. He moved to his family's Louisa County home, Westend Farm. Mr. Taylor was drafted into the Army in 1950 and served in Korea from 1952 to 1953 in the Seventh Infantry Division and as liaison to Seventh Republic of Korea Division. He saw action in the Korean War in the battles of Triangle Hill, Old Baldy and Pork Chop Hill. Wounded on Pork Chop Hill, he received the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Badge and the Chung Mu Medal from the Korean government. He was discharged after the war as a first lieutenant. Mr. Taylor worked from 1953 to 1957 at D.C. Fitzgerald Co. in Richmond. He also fished freshwater ponds and was a member of the Custis Pond fishing association in King William County. Since childhood, Mr. Taylor hunted quail, dove and ducks in Virginia and Maryland. He received an award from Quail Unlimited for improving the habitat for Bobwhite Quail on his farm. He farmed quality hay for horses and twice won a blue ribbon for best hay at the Virginia State Fair. He actively managed timber on his farm, and worked to manage development in the historic Green Springs area of Louisa. On retirement, Mr. Taylor undertook an authentic restoration of his family's 1849 home in Louisa. The house is on the National Register of Historical Places. I have known Henry Taylor since 1989 and worked with him on numerous projects while he was President of Taylor and Parrish, Inc. He expected the very best of everyone and gave his best - always. We worked together on the first renovation and addition of the Virginia Historical Society - Battle Abbey and other projects. From that point on we became good friends and kept in touch throughout the years, no matter what path our lives took us in. He was truly a remarkable, amazing and wonderful man. I am saddened by his loss but am comforted by memories of great projects, wonderful conversations, correspondance, photos through the years and knowing how happy he was to be at his beloved West End and farming good hay for as long as he could. He always said he was so blessed to have found his lovely wife Claire. Henry had great presence and will be missed by many. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife Claire and his entire family.

Henry Taylor and Claire have become my friends and I will miss Henry very much. To add to Henry's long list of contributions to charitable and community organizations listed in his life story, he supported the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation in Orange by donating that award winning hay. We couldn't have managed in the deep snows last winter without Henry's generosity. Henry has also supported the Garden Club of Virginia by opening Westend for the Historic Garden Week tour twice . Henry will be missed. Jeanne Moon

It has been a real pleasure to know Henry Taylor. Friends and I would often go to his farm, West End, to hunt, and Henry was always the gracious host. He was a man of the land. He cared greatly about his farm, his land and his family. I will always look back with fond memories, and remember the great times spent with him. Henry, it was a pleasure.

Though I did'tknow Mr Taylor personally, his parents were great friends of my grandmother and our family. I was married in his Louisa home when his parents were living there. He comes from a great family legacy. Leslie Pollard May-formerly of Gordonsville, VA

Henry Taylor was a fraternity brother of mine and other Phi Kappa Psi's at "The University" during the late 40's and early 50's. Henry was a friend to us all and introduced me to the cartoon pages of the Richmond Times Dispatch. Rest in Peace. Jim Atkin

I am truly sorry to know Mr. Taylor has passed. He was a true gentleman and will forever be remembered by me as being someone who helped me along in the construction industry when I needed guidance. He was a joy to work for and as a sub-contractor, I always was glad to know when we were given the opportunity to work together on a project. I miss that even now.
