Hester Forbes

FORBES, Hester Morgan, widow of J. Branch Forbes, born July 22, 1918, died at her home in Andersonville, Va., on Monday, May 31, 2010. She served in the Andersonville post office for 57 years before retiring in 1996, the last 21 years succeeding her late husband, postmaster from 1934 to 1975. She was a charter member of the Women's Club of Buckingham County, a lifelong member of Bethel Methodist Church and an avid home-pond fisherman. She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra F. Moss of Dillwyn, Susan F. Bomar of Andersonville and Nan F. Bradley of Midlothian; four grandchildren, William M. Moss, Melanie Moss Farrish, Robin Moss Allen and Amy Moss Lawhorne; seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Rita Morgan Stone of Richmond; and her primary caregiver, Shirley W. Shumaker of Buckingham. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Methodist Church in Andersonville.
