WEST, Ida Louise S., 83, of Waverly, passed away on November 11, 2009 at her home at 239 Coppahaunk Avenue in Waverly. Born July 3, 1926 in Sussex County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie C. and Ida Wells Sheffield. She was the widow of J. Mason West. She was a lifetime member of Waverly United Methodist Church, served as a Sunday School treasurer and teacher, and sang in the choir. She was a retired employee of the local bank in Waverly, where she served for over 50 years. Ida Louise was a former member and president of the Woman's Club of Waverly. She is survived by two sisters, Shirley S. Yancey (Thomas E.) and Mary S. Burton; one brother, Eddie C. Sheffield Jr. (Laura A.); and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Beverly Dare West; and a sister, Jacqueline S. Garrett. A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Waverly United Methodist Church in Waverly with Rev. Connie Gibbs-Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church at 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Waverly United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 12, Waverly, Va. 23890, or Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, Va. 23890, or to an organization of your choice. The family is being served by the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield. We join with many others in offering our sincere condolences for the loss of your loved one. Though we did not know her personally, we knew of her through our son Dan and his wife Robin and their children Tom and Ashley who were her neighbors for many years. May she rest in peace.
