My dear uncle James (Uncle Doc)Ashly. As a young boy, he taught me so much, and when he visited us in New York we had so much fun. He was one of my favorate uncles. I remember one summer I spent in Richmond and went to work with him to help him. Though I had a father, I loved him as a son.

We wish to express our deepest sympathy and to say our thoughts have been with you every since we heard of Uncle "Doc"'s passing. We all admired him greatly. You must be even prouder of his devotion to you. We know you will be strong as he would have wanted you to be.
