Jane SISSON Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch from Oct. 25 to Oct. 26, 2009.
SISSON, Jane Price, 61, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on October 24, 2009, after an inspiring, faith-filled battle with cancer. Jane served her patients and their families many years as an R.N. in critical care, first in cardiac nursing and then in her final 25 years as a labor and delivery nurse at Henrico Doctors Hospital and Chippenham-Johnston Willis Medical Centers. Her calm demeanor, professional competence and gentle touch endeared "No Pain Jane" to her patients. She touched many lives as the Parish Nurse for St. Giles Presbyterian Church where she established many friendships. She will be missed dearly by her family, many friends, and co-workers. She is survived by her husband, Richard P. Sisson Jr.; her daughter, Emily H. Sisson; her stepson, Richard P. Sisson III and his wife, Wendy S. Sisson; grandson, Liam Morrison Sisson; as well as her mother, Adelyn Price; her sister, Robin Price; her twin brother, Frederick C. Price Jr.; and her niece, Rebecca Behrman; her mother in-law, Barbara M. Sisson; her brother-in-law, Byron M. Sisson; her loving aunts, Alice Goman, Lee Walsh and Shirley Silvick; and uncle, Raymond Silvick; as well as many cousins. Special thanks to Traci and Jim Anderson, Cathy Harbert, Karen Wild and lifelong friend, Frederick Wayne. A memorial service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, at 5200 Grove Avenue, on Tuesday, October 27, at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Jane's name to Heifer International. Thank you to The Virginia Cancer Institute, R. Brian Mitchell, M.D. and Julie Calvert, R.N. and staff, and additional thanks to Lewis Stoneburner.

Richard -- thank you for finding my phone number and calling me tonight to let me know about Jane's passing. I remember the fun times we all had together, the parties at the seminary student housing apartments and in your beautiful home. I loved working with Jane... I called her "Hane" (the" J" silent :)) she was a great nurse and a wonderful person ... Mine and Tino's thoughts will be with you - we'll keep in touch. Love you, Tino and Rebecca Ballesteros

Dick,

I just belatedly learned that Jane had died after her long and courageous battle with cancer. I remember her internal fortitude and grace. Thanks for mentioning me in the obituary. Please accept my sympathy to you and your family. Lewis

Sisson:

While I never met Jane, I know what a loving, caring and faithful husband you were. You stuck with Jane through better or worse. You maintained a positive attitude and took care of her for a long, long time. I'm proud of you for way you acted and the way you loved your wife. And I'm proud to say you're my lifelong friend.

Dear Robin and Rebecca, I regret that I did not know your beautiful sister and aunt, Jane, but please know that you and your family are very much in my thoughts during this time of inestimable loss.

Jane and I met at a rooming house on Hermitage Road way back in 1969, and shortly thereafter we got an apartment together on the Boulevard. My future husband got an apartment elsewhere on the Boulevard with Jane's twin Rick. During those fun years, every man or boy who came into Jane's presence got a huge crush on her. Her beauty, intelligence, and sense of humor just made everyone love her. We will miss you, Jane, and remember you always. My love to Dick and Emily, Nan, Rick, and Robin and Rebecca.

Although I didn't know Jane well, I heard many kind things about her over the years, from my sister, Karen Kravitz. May love and healing surround your family at this time.
