Jean Andersen Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Dec. 17, 2009.
ANDERSEN, Jean Jones, 73, of Richmond, moved peacefully to the next stage of her spiritual journey on December 14, 2009 after two years with lymphoma that offered her, and all who cared for her, innumerable lessons in life and love. Born in Morristown, N.J., and a graduate of William Smith College in 1958, Jean was a lifelong scholar with a gift for weaving life's tapestry together. Her role as a mentor and spiritual advisor touched many within her Richmond Friends Quaker community and beyond. She was a lover of literature and dragons, of ritual and culture, of the arts and politics - a Renaissance woman who embodied the concept of moving through life purposefully and gracefully. She will continue as inspiration and spiritual guide for her family, son, John (Susan); daughter, Deborah (Steve Pullinger); sister, Maggie Yadouga (Tony); and brother, Bob Jones; grandchildren, Robert and Jennifer; nieces, Kirsten Schwinn (Eric) and Courtney Yadouga; and nephew, Rob Jones. Her family will receive visitors at Richmond Friends Meeting, 4500 Kensington Avenue, on Sunday, December 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. A Memorial Meeting for Worship will be held on Monday, December 21, at noon at the same location. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Dalton Clinic, Massey Cancer Center, or to the African Great Lakes Initiative.

My message is two-fold -
First - my message to Jean who is now enjoying a new spiritual journey - Thank you for creating such a wonderful family which enabled so many of us to have our lives enriched by them.

To John and his family,
Cherish the "memory moments" that you will have of your Mom. These moments will come in floods and spurts and when they do bask in the enjoyment, smile in the memory, raise your eyes to the sky and say Thanks. She will live in the hearts of all of the many people that she touched and her gift of weaving life's tapestry will carry on as each of you add your weave to the fabric of life.

May the Lord bless you and comfort you. Know that we are there for you if you need anything.

With our deepest Sympathy,
Dianne and Craig Rust
