Frank Capaldo Obituary

Frank (Francis) Patrick Capaldo

November 15, 2025

MECHANICSVILLE, Virginia - MECHANICSVILLE, VA - CAPALDO, Frank (Francis) Patrick, 81, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Frank grew up in Waterbury, Connecticut and was the first member of his family to attend college, graduating from the University of Connecticut. He proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia. Frank remained in Virginia after his service to start a family, settling down in Ashland, Virginia in 1975. He enjoyed coaching youth baseball, basketball, and softball, and he coached the St. Bridget's eighth grade softball team for several years with great success.

He built a successful career in real estate, working in Virginia and later taking advantage of opportunities in Homestead, Florida and Gulf Shores, Alabama before finding his home in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was active in the shag dance community; he was Sergeant at Arms for the South Strand Shag Club and a member of the Competitive Shaggers Association where he competed at the novice level. He made many dear friends in this community that remained close to his heart.

Frank loved sports of all kinds, especially his UConn Huskies and the Boston Red Sox. He was always athletic, playing many sports, including softball. In his 50s, he ran five marathons in Myrtle Beach – a proud accomplishment.

Although he moved to Mechanicville, Virginia two years ago to be closer to family, his heart remained in Myrtle Beach.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Pasquale (Pat) and Mary Cooper Capaldo, and brothers, Raymond and Edward Capaldo. His memory will live on with his sister, Peggy (Albert) Santopietro, and sons Brian (Stephanie), Kevin (Jennifer), Chris (Lisa) Capaldo, and daughter Andrea (Steven) Waldinger. He cherished his grandkids, Melanie, Zoe (Jacob), Eileen (Will), Jeremy, Nicole, Ty, Nora, Elijah, and his great grandson, Asher.

A funeral mass and reception will be held on Monday, November 24 at 12:00 noon at The Church of the Redeemer in Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers, please give a gift to a young person in need this holiday season in honor of his great love of giving presents and the Christmas season.
