I really miss John. He was a great person who knew a lot about radio in Virginia. He was a radio historian. In fact, I think he could have written a book. I wish he had.

To this day, when I hear or think of something funny I want to call you and tell you about it.
I remember how afraid you were to come see me at my first 'official' radio job in Daytona Beach. How I laughed when you explained you had never flown in a plane before. There you were, though. A trooper.
Once I relocated to Detroit I could count on you to keep me posted about Norman. I'll never forget the day I answered the phone with a simple 'Hello?' and you said 'THEY FOUND A HEART!'
John you kept the circle of radio alive. It was so easy to drift away what with jobs and obligations. It was so easy to forget what was important.
Not on your watch, though.
Truly a Walking Encyclopedia of radio. A savant.
I miss you my friend.

Met John in 73 when we worked at the Holiday Inn. Were roomates later and I showed him the dating ropes during the disco era.

Since I hadn't heard from John on Facebook in quite a while, I was going to reach out and say hello, and hopefully have one of our long conversations about radio and radio people. I'm so sorry to hear that his heart condition did not improve. We had so much in common, as we worked with many of the same radio personalities over the years. I'm very sorry to hear the sad news of his passing.

It is with a great sadness that I just now heard about John's passing. Its been a few years since we emailed each other regularly. John started out like all of us radio jocks did....a kid calling his favorite DJs during their shows and talking their ears off! We all knew he would follow in our headphones one day and be a radio DJ. He was unique. I don't thank he ever met or heard any radio DJ that he didn't like.

I read this news with a heavy heart. Brad was a good friend through a very formative time for us both and I hope to see him when my time is up. My deepest condolences to you, Mrs. Elliott.

John, with so many people saying so many kind and wonderful things, I wish I could come up with something profound by which to bid you Godspeed. But with your having left us so quietly, unexpectedly and at such a young age, I and others are at a loss for words. You were the guardian of a treasure trove of timeless memories that you unselfishly shared with us. You reminded us of a time in our lives that was special, unique and can never be replicated. Looking back, I can only manage to say "Thank you". Rest in peace, friend.

RIP My Broadcasting friend John Elliott aka Matt Nichols. You were a wealth of Virginia Broadcasting knowledge. I enjoyed our debates over who did what and when, even into today's Audio Streaming!! its still RADIO... A bug that bit him hard and never let go. A walking encyclopedia of radio, and recorded music knowledge, dedicated... friendly...one of a kind... That's John Elliott. John's FaceBook Group page is Virginia AM/FM/TV. John enjoyed everyone on this group page and was amazed at its growth and participants. Our love of this industry, a community of broadcasters are we... John really missed Scott Swingle,,, as do I. Scott went out of his way to visit John on the Outer Banks years ago, John never forgot it... Well John, Scott's sitting there at the heavenly transmitter keeping it hummin' while you're spinning that turntable with a 45 playing "Rock n' Roll Heaven" giving a smooth as silk history filled intro for Our Lord... I'll miss you John

I'll always remember John as quite a character. He stuck with the business through all the ups and downs; called me a lot when I was on the air at Q--lots of times with the "latest news" he wanted to pass on--and he even had me on the air with him a few years ago while I was in town visiting old friends, which I'll always appreciate. A definite radio junkie gone too soon.

I knew "John" as Brad. We grew up next door to each other. He had a strong love for comic books and loved to play "mad scientist". We spent many hours on the Monkey Bars in his back yard. My sister and I last saw him in December, at the nursing home, dealing with health complications. He was truly a big personality as a child and as an adult...rest easy, Bradley.

He will be sadly missed by all his friends at all the boards he used to be on like, quadraphonicquad, AntiqueRadios.com and his stalwart anchor BSNPubs.

I'm sad to hear about John's passing. I met him when I was at K95 after the studios moved from the Arboretum over to Moorefield Park and worked with him for several years following. As we all know he was a wealth of information and details on all things radio, especially when it came to the Richmond, VA market. He left this world way too young. May God be with his family during this difficult time. RIP and God Speed!

Many a late night spent on the phone talking radio, either while I was on the air at Q-94, or while he was on somewhere. i hope he left his repository of VA radio history written down somewhere.

I too am very sad to hear about Matt/John. We met my first day at Main Line in 2004 and I knew he l loved the radio more than I did. He spent so much time filling me in on Richmond Radio Stories, all so much fun to hear and all told with his own style.
Rest in peace brother.

John was working nights at Main Line Broadcasting, when I crept in in the middle of the night to help launch 98.9 Liberty. We got to talk a lot, since I worked late. John was smart, passionate about radio, and a walking, talking encyclopedia about all things radio, especially Richmond radio. He helped me learn so much about the market that was very important in setting up the foundation of the radio station. He was always helping others. I would hear from John wanting to know if I could talk to a friend about a job, or help them with an aircheck or give some advise about a format. He cared about his friends, and he really cared about his family. He was a great guy, and will be greatly missed by me.

I can't think of anyone who loved radio more or knew more history of VA radio, especially in the Richmond area than John. Always fun and interesting to chat with. We will truly miss him. 100,000 watt prayers from my humble transmitter for Mrs. Elliott and all of John's family.

He was the first person to reach out to me when I started at B103 in '99. Gave me so much interesting stories about Richmond radio and personalities, that from our first meeting and for many years later I told him to write a book!
We worked many more years together at 107.3 and he was always the most supportive person in the building. I'll miss you, John. Thanks for everything you did for me over the years and sharing your stories with me. Peace be with you.

John and I attended Henrico High School...and we both followed the road into radio. Through all the years, John was the one who maintained contact, keeping me posted about our classmates, and always LONG conversations about radio. He sure loved the business. I know you will only rest for a moment, then you will start that eternal airshift...enjoy your new air chair..

I met John back in 1974. We shared a common love of music collecting, and finding stereo versions of many songs. He was quite a guy... died way too young. R.I.P. John.

It enjoyed working with John at Cox Radio. He was always so nice and helpful, and he sure loved his job and his rock-n-roll. He will be missed by many friends and fans.

I was surprised to hear of John's passing. I never met him but conversed with him a lot on the Facebook page he started. He contributed a lot to the happiness of us former broadcasters who use the page daily. He helped all of us, by letting us reminisce about the "good ol' days". He will truly be missed.
