John Flippen Sr.

FLIPPEN, John C. Sr., formerly of South Hill and Richmond, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at his home in Williamsburg, Va. with Nancy Carol Ramsey and his faithful companion Merlin present. Mr. Flippen was the son of the late Robert Glyde and Ethel Seward Flippen of South Hill. He is survived by his three children, Lisa Flippen Hagan, John Crowder Flippen Jr. and his wife, Elly, and their son, Jake, and Jonathan Glyde Flippen and his stepdaughter, Sydney Leigh Halbleib, and her daughter, Indigo. His career began in the Richmond home building/real estate development sector and in midlife he became an entrepreneur in the dry cleaning business. He had many friends within South Hill and the Richmond Jaycees in his early years. He had a sarcastic wit and lived life on his terms. His best memories were of times spent on Buggs Island Lake with his friends and family, and he regularly spoke fondly of his father, Robert.
