Virginia Hill Flippen, age 96 of Evant, passed away on September 28, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025 at The Presbyterian Church in Gatesville with The Rev. Dr. Buddy Wheat officiating. Interment will follow at Murphree Cemetery in Evant. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service at the church.
Virginia was born at home in Pidcoke, Texas on February 12, 1929, to the late Richard and Addie Hill. Virginia graduated from Evant High School in May of 1947 and married James Flippen in Hamilton on September 20, 1947, in the home of his sister, Jessie Kinsey. Virginia and James lived their entire lives on Vista Mountain West of Evant. James passed away in September 1986 and Virginia remained on the ranch until 2014. She lived at the Meadows Nursing Home until she passed.
Virginia, lovingly known as Mom, Meme, MawMa, and Grandma, was active in the Fairview Baptist Church for over 50 years. Education was very important to Virginia, and she was president of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in Evant schools. Virginia was the ultimate helpmate for James. She was the best cook around and was famous for her red beans and cornbread. She cooked and served many delicious meals to neighbors and her children's classmates. She always had a huge garden to get the family through the winter. Virginia was a very selfless person and always put the needs of her husband and children above her own. Her legacy lives through her children and grandchildren.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Flippen; son, Jimmy Flippen, and daughter-in-law Johna Faye Flippen.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Wenzel of Hamilton, and Debbie Reedy and husband, Jack of Aledo; son, Gene Flippen and wife, Toni of Evant; eight grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren.
