I am remembering influential people in my life now , at age 68. In 1976 I began working at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond Virginia. I began working the afternoon shift and worked alongside, and for, John Jackson. Even today, I can close my eyes and hear his infectious laugh that often calmed tension and brought smiles to everyone in the room. John was so gracious with his time and knowledge sharing, often being my sole teacher in some areas. He had impeccable integrity and was the great peacemaker in our group. I, as a northern white man from West Virginia, felt embraced by John through invitations to his home to socialize with his circle of friends. This kindness was never lost on me as I think of him often in these days of awakening and unrest in our country. I see that he enjoyed a large, loving, and connected family after I moved on to other things in 1980. I completed a 40 year career in international business and John's early lessons in cooperative work were, I am certain, part of the reason I enjoyed my subsequent work so much. I am not sure who will read this at this late date, but if any of John's relatives do read this, I would be most grateful if you would pass on my sentiments and remembrance of him so they will know that many many people were touched by John's legacy of kindness and humor. Best regards- Fred Manley, Austin TX.
