Kathleen HUDGINS Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Nov. 8, 2009.
HUDGINS, Kathleen Elizabeth "Kitty," of Richmond, passed away November 5, 2009 at the Retreat Hospital in Richmond following a long illness. At her side was her devoted niece, Dee-Dee Shue of Powhatan. Kathleen was born October 13, 1927 at Olden Place, near Crewe. She retired from the City of Richmond Department of Parks and Recreation after 38 years of service. Over the years, she also worked part-time at Sears on Broad Street, the Mosque in wardrobe and make-up and typed for many professors at Richmond Professional Institute. All things in nature interested Kathleen. Cats were the love of her life and she leaves behind her beloved, Suzy, who has been adopted to a great home. An advocate of young people, she always preferred the company of those much younger than herself. Kathleen is survived by her sister, Anne Hundley Childress of Blackstone; eight nieces and four nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas Warriner and Tizy Moore Hudgins; brothers, Robert, Boo-Boo, Petsi and Jim. Family and friends have hundreds of memories of beach trips, walks in the woods, picnics at Big Rock, family reunions, late night phone calls, and her connection to us all. You're home with Mama. The family offers a special thanks to the caregivers at Imperial Plaza and Hospice of Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SPCA of Richmond. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, November 9, at Jennings-McMillian Funeral Home, 200 W. Carolina Ave., Crewe, Va. 23930. Visitation will be held Monday from 11:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment Crewe Cemetery.
