Landon TRIGG

TRIGG, Landon White, has died at the age of 85 years due to an extended illness. Landon was born in Richmond on June 30, 1926. He was the younger son of the late William Robertson and Emma Gray White Trigg. He attended St. Christopher's School and Episcopal High School before enlisting in the US Navy at age 17. He served in the South Pacific during WWII on the USS Amsterdam and was in the Tokyo Bay during Japan's surrender. Landon later served in the Virginia Air National Guard as well as the US Air Force. Mr. Trigg attended Washington & Lee University in Lexington. He had a 32 year career in Corporate Insurance. He started with Davenport Insurance Company, which later was acquired by Marsh & McLennan, Inc. He retired as Senior Vice President and Head of Virginia Operations in 1981. Shortly after, he started a new career of coordinating group travel with Richmond companies, Dynasty World Travel and Ambassador Travel & Tours, while relocating his primary residence to Hardings Wharf on Dividing Creek, near Kilmarnock, Virginia. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he served as a Vestryman, Senior Warden and search committees for new Rectors as well as the diocesan Bishop of Virginia. He served on countless boards and committees, most notably, president of Christian Children's Fund (now called Child Fund International), vice rector of Virginia State University, Boy Scouts of America, president of Mental Health Association of Richmond, president of Grace House, president of Richmond Area Community Council, J.W. Fergusson & Sons, president of Richmond Area Psychiatric Clinic, Capital Savings & Loan Association, chairman of the Richmond City Republican Committee, and the Richmond-Petersburg Turnpike Authority. He was a founding partner of developing the Northern Neck community of Bon Harbors. Landon was a member of various organizations including Kiwanis Club of Richmond, Poe Foundation, Navy League of the U.S., Country Club of Virginia, Commonwealth Club of Virginia, Sons of the Revolution, Pilgrim Golf Group and Indian Creek Yacht & Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Stoddard Barnard Trigg; his four children, Mary Alston Trigg Sachs (Leonard Samuel), William Robertson Trigg (Susan Bartlett), all of Richmond, Susan Reid Trigg of Xico, Mexico and Edward Barnard Trigg (Leigh Brittingham) of Poole, England; his six grandchildren, Landon and Lana Sachs, William and Jack Trigg and Mamie and Emory Trigg; his sister, Emma Gray Emory of Richmond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William Robertson Trigg III of Alexandria, Virginia. Memorial services for Landon W. Trigg will be held at 11 a.m., Friday June 15, at St James Episcopal Church located at 1205 W. Franklin Street. This follows a private burial for family at Hollywood Cemetery. The Rev. Doug Burgoyne officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be sent to Child Fund International or St. James Episcopal Church.
