LENA MARTIN Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home - Chippenham from Jan. 16 to Jan. 17, 2010.
MARTIN, Lena Mae Smith, 96, a homemaker and longtime resident of Chesterfield County, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2010. The third of twelve children, she was born on January 6, 1914, in Patrick County to Joe and Agnes Smith. She was married for over 50 years to William Harold Martin, who died in 1984. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Gladys Wallace, Walter Smith, Irene Timberlake, Edith Johnson, Ruth Bennett, Carl Smith, Doris Case and Barbara Smith. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Robert Giannini of Powhatan; sisters, Virginia Jones of Midlothian and Louise Poore of Powhatan; brother, Glen Smith of Amelia; numerous nieces and nephews; and a devoted friend, Hazel Bell of Midlothian. She was a member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Amelia. She had an amazing green thumb, able to turn an almost dead plant into a beautiful living thing. She was always especially proud of her lovely azalea garden. The family will receive friends at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., on Sunday, January 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Monday, January 18, at Dale Memorial Park, Newbys Bridge Rd., Chesterfield. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a contribution to your favorite charity.
