WEEKLEY Leslie Bruce, age 77, went to eternal rest May 24, 2010 after a long period of declining health. He was a resident of Dinwiddie for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. L. Bruce Weekley Jr.; his parents, Leslie H. and Ada A. Weekley of Middlebourne, West Virginia; his brothers, Bill Weekley, Edward Weekley; and two sisters, Sara White and June Henderson. Leslie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was employed by Allied Chemical Corp. and worked as a field machinist for 31 years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He became a member of the Methodist church at a young age. He loved woodworking, gardening and playing with his four poodle mix dogs. He would take them on slow car rides over quiet Dinwiddie County roads, heads out the windows, ears flapping in the breeze. Left to mourn his memory is his wife of 57 years, Shirley R. Weekley; daughter, Susan Lynn Weekley; brothers, Allen Weekley (Bernie) and Gary Weekley (Brenda); sisters, Jean White and Beverly Stutzman; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard White, Kenneth Roberts (Betty), Donald Roberts (Alice); and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the Son Risers Bible Fellowship Class at Colonial Heights Baptist Church for the many prayers, visits, cards and other expressions of support during Leslie's illness. Also many thanks to our beloved physician and nurse, Dr. Christopher Ogburn and Stacey Coleman, R.N. A memorial service will take place 2 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010 at the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, with the Reverend Phyllis Piluso, pastor of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Dinwiddie, officiating. Inurnment will be held at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, Virginia 23058, or the Alzheimer's Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, Virginia 23060. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
