Louis Cargile Obituary

CARGILE, Louis Laymon "Buddy" Jr., of Mechanicsville, born in Natchez, Miss. on July 6, 1927, the son of the late Louis L. Cargile Sr. and Gladys McCrea Cargile, passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lydia Ann McKay Cargile, and is survived by one brother-in-law, two nephews, one niece, several great-nieces, and many devoted friends whose love and support were greatly appreciated by him. Buddy attended LSU before enlisting in the Marine Corps serving as a cryptographer under the Chief of Naval Operations during the occupation of Japan, China and Guam. He was recalled into service for the Korean War to help rebuild the 2nd Marine Division. Upon leaving the Marines, he went to work for Government Intelligence in Washington, D.C. leaving in 1958 to work at the Reynolds Metals Corp H.Q. in Richmond, retiring in 1985 after 27 years of service. A Mason for 60 years, he belonged to the Concordia #305 F&A.M. in Vadalia, La.; Washington Henry #344 A.F.&A.M.; Manchester Royal Arch #48, and in 1974 was Worshipful Master of Hellinic #249 A.F.&A.M. which was later absorbed into Metropolitan #11. He was also a life member of the Mechanicsville VFW Post 9808. The family will receive friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Riverview Cemetery with the Reverend Mark D. Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4240 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23058.
