MILDRED BARRET Obituary

Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Oct. 27, 2010.
BARRET, Mildred M., 92, of Mechanicsville, died peacefully at her home with her children near her on October 25, 2010. She was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband of 62 years, Bill Barret. Together they had four children, Bette Jean Chick of Richmond, Ralph Barret and wife, Marsha, of Mechanicsville, Linda-Lee Bowman and husband, Paul, of Baltimore, Md., and John Barret and wife, Toni, of Madison. There are now 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild from that faithful marriage. She was also preceded in death in June by her sister, Jean Mann McClure of Richmond; and by her two brothers in previous years. In addition to her progeny, she is survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stuart and Claire Barret of Richmond and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen and Chuck Geddy of Georgia. Mildred was born in Richmond, where she lived until 1961, when she and her family moved to Culpeper, living there for 38 years. They then returned to Richmond to be near their children for the remainder of their years. She had been an employee of Culpeper National Bank and had continued her faithful involvement in Culpeper Methodist Church until their return to Richmond. She left her children a legacy of encouragement, forgiveness and generosity, of loving her husband and family, and of unwavering commitment to them. Her entertaining family stories and laughter and love of life will be missed. The family will receive visitors at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A brief graveside service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bon Secours Hospice.

We are all better people because of our
friendship with Mildred. Like many others, I worked with Mildred at Culpeper
National Bank. More than that, Betty Jean and Linda will remember the Card Playing Group that she organized and which remained together for years. We had such a great time visiting, eating and playing Samba (next step after Canasta).God Bless all the family during
the days ahead as you adjust to your loss. Ann Carder

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I worked with Mildred at Culpeper National Bank and will always have very fond memories of her. She was very helpful to me as I was a young lady just starting out in the large working world. I enjoyed her telling stories of her family. She will be missed, but we have great memories.
