Hollywood, Florida - John William Barret, Jr., 86, beloved son of John William and Helen Marie Barret, died peacefully at home on August 5, 2024 with family by his side. John is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Margaret (Bowden) Barret, his son John, daughter Anne, son James (Sarah) and seven Grandchildren: Foster, Rylan, Siena, Jude, Jameson, Eve, and Joshua.
Born March 12, 1938 in Miami and raised in The Village of El Portal, FL, and a proud descendant of Colonel William Barret Travis, he was educated at St. Mary's, Archbishop Curley, Belmont Abbey (BA) and Barry University (MA). John was a '50's radio DJ, taught at Immaculate Conception, and was a youth sports coach that won many local championships and coaching awards. He was a longtime agent and broker for Sun Life of Canada and Crown Life. John was a member of the Rotary Club of Davie, St. Vincent de Paul, Knights of Columbus, and was an advocate for St. Jude Children's Hospital. He fished. He laughed. He loved.
Wake August 16th at Landmark Funeral Home in Hollywood, FL 6-9pm with family remarks at 7:30pm. John was a parishioner at Nativity Catholic Church in Hollywood for over 50 years, and his funeral mass will be held there August 17th, 10am.
