Nannie Blanks Obituary

BLANKS, Mrs. Nannie Elizabeth Moorefield, of the Providence Community, died January 6, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Mecklenburg County on October 21, 1922 and was the daughter of the late Otie and Nannie Elizabeth Moorefield. Mrs. Blanks is survived by her husband of 70 years, Keister M. Blanks; her son, Keister M. "Butch" Blanks Jr. and wife, Pam; her daughter, Carolyn Blanks Slayton and husband, Wayne. Mrs. Blanks is also survived by three grandchildren, Todd M. Blanks and wife, Rae, Kim A. Blanks and Angela P. Slayton-Sargent; three great-grandchildren, Brandon S. Garner, Tyler D. Garner and Nicholas B Sargent; two brothers, Watt Moorefield and wife, June, Wayne Moorefield; and one sister, Mary Ellen "Till" Hall and husband, Gene. She was preceded in death by one brother, Clyde "Bay" Moorefield. Mrs. Blanks was a founding member and first president of the Staunton River Garden Club, president of the Blanks Memorial Foundation, which was instrumental in the restoration of Historic Halifax Church. She was a devoted member and past deacon and elder of Providence Presbyterian Church, where she served as the church historian for over 25 years. She was a retired Title I para-professional of Clover and Scottsburg Elementary Schools. The service and burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Providence Presbyterian Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to Historic Halifax Church, 5020 Morton's Ferry Road, Nathalie, Va. 24577. Online condolences may be directed to www.powellfunerals.com.
