Odiegene George Obituary

Published by Bliley's Funeral Home Central Chapel on Nov. 22, 2009.
GEORGE, Odiegene McGregor, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2009. She was 84 years young. Mrs. George was born in Cookeville, Tennessee on September 14, 1925 to J.R. and Esther McGregor. Mrs. George was survived by her daughter, Suzie Godsey and her husband, Ed, of Jonesborough, Tennessee; and her sons, Ellis P. George Jr. of Richmond and Lester L. George and his wife, Pat, also of Richmond. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Lyndsay George and Shannon Fisher, both from Richmond. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Ellis P. George, USAF (Ret.) who passed away in 2006. Colonel and Mrs. George were married in Tampa, Florida in 1948 and remained by each others sides for 58 years. They traveled the United States and the world for 33 years until his retirement from the Air Force in 1974. Not ones to settle for inactivity, they started their own Real Estate Appraisal business in Richmond and worked together every day for another 25 years. Mrs. George was a devoted, supportive military wife and loving mother who raised three children while her husband served in three wars. She spent the last 39 years of her life in Richmond. She loved arts and crafts, shelling, decorating, entertaining and sports. She was an avid golfer in her earlier years and followed golf beyond her playing days. Her final days were made significantly more comfortable and serene by the compassionate and caring professional staff of The Laurels of Willow Creek, for which her family is grateful. Her remains rest at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends Sunday, November 22, from 2 to 4 p.m., and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

My mother told me of you moms death when I called this morning (Sunday). Although I didn't see Tiny and your mother too often, they were some of my favorite relatives. My youngest grandson met Odiegene only once, but it was love at first sight. He couldn't do enough to be close to her all day.

There are a lot of memories I think of when I think of your Mom & Dad. Bo the poodle and George the bunny (who later it turned out to be Georgette). The handmade gifts, the hugs, the caring and other memories as well. Needless to say she loved her children dearly and always spoke highly of each one. I know she will be missed, but like you said Suzie, she is with her other loves and enjoying herself.
God be with all of you as you go through this.
