JEFFREY, Paul Richard Jr., age 70, of Richmond, passed away on December 17, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Richard Jeffrey Sr. and Corinne Semple Jeffrey, and by his granddaughter, Elizabeth Jeffrey. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Parrish Jeffrey and his faithful companion and travel buddy, Gladys the Beagle; his children, Alison Scott (Joe) of Richmond, Jennifer Yellets (Jeff) of Lexington Park, Md., Parrish Jeffrey (Theresa) of Richmond and Paul Jeffrey III of Richmond; grandchildren, Joey and Jesse Scott, Bethany and Brian Yellets, and Samantha and Ian Jeffrey; siblings, Alice Tucker of Reston, Michael Jeffrey of Ashland, and Steven Jeffrey (Joann) of Glen Allen; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a proud member of the Virginia State Police for 36 years and was head of the Virginia State Police Scuba Diving Team for a number of years. He was very active in the local community and belonged to the Virginia State Police Association, the Virginia State Police Alumni, American Association of State Troopers and International Police Association. He was an active member and volunteer of the Virginia State Police Museum. He was also a volunteer for over 30 years with the American Red Cross. He was an active member of the Central Chesterfield Ruritans, Richmond Ski Club, Richard British Car Club, and Virginia Vineyard Association. When there was free time available to him, you could find Paul down in Mecklenburg County at the family farm, hunting, fishing, growing grapes and enjoying life with Gladys. At an age when most people would be satisfied with life, Paul went to college and obtained his undergraduate and graduate degrees from VCU. The family wishes to express its greatest appreciation to Dr. Anthony Caruso and the nursing staff at St. Frances ICU and CCU. Family will receive visitors on Monday, December 21 at 1 p.m. at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va., and the memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Virginia State Police Museum through the Virginia State Police Association, 6944 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23225 with a notation "Jeffrey-VSP Museum." Dear Margaret and family,

You have our deepest sympathy in the loss of Paul. I have fond memories of working with Paul at the VSP Academy when I was promoted to Sgt. there in 1974 and assigned to coordinate training for the SCUBA program among other duties. Having no SCUBA experience, I relied totally on Paul for advice and guidance which he never failed to cheerfully and cordially provide. He was an exemplary leader and member of the VSP and his legacy will live on in the Dept. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

I first met Paul Jeffery in 1977 when I attended VSP Academy. He was my Sgt. He was always fair to everyone. He was a great mentor. He was a Trooper's Trooper.
I last saw him on Dec 8th at the hospital. His spirits were very high. He loved his family very much. He spoke highly of VSP. I am glad that I went to visit him. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
God Bless you my mentor and friend

My deepest sympathy to Margaret and the entire Jeffery family.

To this day, I am still amazed at how he could swim. The first time I saw him while going through the Academy, he would swim underwater from corner to corner in effortless strokes for what seemed like an eternity.

Throughout my career Paul always was encouraging and constantly stayed on me to keep going to school.

He made me a better person and he will be missed by everyone that met him him.

Heartfelt sympathy goes out to Margaret and the entire Jeffrey family. I met Paul in 1979 when he was one of our Academy Sergeants while I was attending VSP Basic School. After I left the VSP I continued contact with Paul through the Alumni, and grew to love his quick wit....and the fact that he could laugh about himself. I admire him for his determination to continue "life" as he got older, and know that he will surely be missed.

I met Paul while working with his wife, Margaret, at Safety Div., SPHQ, and thought he was such a nice and down-to-earth person and such a loving pet owner to Gladys (whom I adore also). He was so popular at SPHQ and will be missed by many. My sincere condolences to the entire family.

I salute you, Paul.
All my memories of him make me smile. I will miss him. I am so thankful that he and my sister had the many years together that they did - he and his extended family enriched life for us all. Some of my fondest memories are of the happy times he shared with my mother - he was truly a blessing as a son-in-law. Fondly, Chris

My Deepest Sympathy to Paul's Family.

I first met Paul when he attended the National Red Cross Aquatic School in 1975, then worked with him in the Water Safety Program and Disaster Services Program, especially as an ERV Driver. His dry sense of humor keep us going through some tough times.

Thank You for sharing Paul with the American Red Cross.
