Serena Phillips HANGER

HANGER, Serena Phillips, 84, of Waynesboro, died on Saturday morning, November 14, 2009, after a long illness, at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born at Red Mills near Crimora, Va. on February 2, 1925, the daughter of Jim and Julie Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hansford Martin Hanger; granddaughter, Whitney Glenn Hanger; two brothers; five sisters; and her parents. She is survived by two sons, Tim Martin Hanger of Richmond, Danny Lee Hanger of Fishersville; two grandsons, Nathan Ashford Hanger of Richmond and Paige Martin Hanger of Port Orange, Florida; one great-grandson, Max Finley Hanger of Richmond; and several nieces and nephews. She had a long career with DuPont and retired from that company. She was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McDow Funeral Home. Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with interment held at Augusta Memorial Gardens immediately following.
